Baby Persian Jirds in Week 3.

This is a page with photos of my Baby Jirds at 3 weeks old. For more information on Persian Jirds and more pictures of older and younger baby jirds go back to the Baby Persian Jird Index and choose one of the links on the left.Well it's complete chaos in the Persian Jird cage at 23 days they all have their eyes open and are coming out and exploring. They have started to pick up things and chew anything handy but I haven't seen any of them eating solid food yet.

In this first photo days you can see that the Jird at the back has picked up a wood shaving and is about to carry it into the box. If you look carefully at the baby in front you can just make out the little holes in his fur on his back caused by mum picking him up none to gently.

Look at this amazing wood shaving I've found!

In this photo you can see the length of this baby's tail and the fact that her ears haven't stood up yet.

This little furry can't decide whether to come and look at the camera or to leg it. The plug in the background gives a good idea of his size.

The next photos are taken at 25 days when their ears have started to stand up and they are getting around a lot more. They moved out of the nest box and Eric has been allowed back into the nest. He seems very good natured with them and is quite happy for them to curl up in a heap on top of him. Their back feet are enormous in relation to their body size.

This photo was taken a couple of days later. They are eating solid food now although they still appear to be feeding from mum. I've started putting in oatmeal and fine chopped broccoli to help them out but the seem to be managing to gnaw on the biscuits in the gerbil food. I'm hoping that they will start to learn to use the water bottle soon. They are looking more like miniture adult Jirds every day.
